Originally trained as a secondary Mathematics teacher, Frank moved into TEFL teaching during his traveling days and has the RSA Diploma to go along with his PGCE and B.Sc. He spent 15 years teaching in Hong Kong, Seoul and Brunei before returning to the U.K. in 1998 to join his mother working at Keda Publications – publishers of Toe by Toe. When he is not actively teaching, most of his time these days is spent working with his mother, Keda Cowling on the development of new literacy resources or presenting workshops and seminars on the use of Keda’s resources.

Joy Lubawy is an Early Childhood Author, singer/songwriter former academic and teaching director, as well as experience working in special education. l n the last 5 years she and her husband Peter Law have been travelling Australia and New Zealand talking about the fire that burns inside us all, imagination, creativity, awe and wonder!

Our chosen theme for conference this year is Friendship. What better way to continue friendships than to come to conference, renew old friendships and make new ones.

In our endeavours to find interesting presenters to whet your appetites,
we would like to announce that Sally Morgan,
the author of “My Place” has consented to be our plenary speaker.

Although we have a small conference organising committee this year, consisting of early childhood Education Assistants, middle/upper school Education Assistant and a High School Special Needs Assistant, we will do our utmost to find the best presenters to give you an interesting and informative conference weekend.

As we return to work after what I hope was an enjoyable holiday for you, I thought it may be interesting to focus on the issue of work stress. Here are a few ideas to help you if you are starting a new position.

• Give yourself time to settle into your new position.
• Take things one step at a time.
• Focus on getting comfortable with your new work environment, the students and co-workers.
• Communicate regularly with your teachers, Principal and line manager.
• Be calm and relaxed while settling into your new position (well at least look calm and relaxed).
• Be mentally prepared for the eventuality of unexpected problems and surprises. This will make it easier to cope.
• Thinking positively breeds resilience.
• With a positive approach, you will feel more confident and therefore more likely to be successful in your new position.

I would like to wish all our members a productive and fulfilling year.
Remember that you do make a huge difference to every child that you come in contact with.
